June

Cameron Clarke on being Runner-up in the National Institute of Medical Research Sixth Form Essay Competition 2008. There were over fifty entries from thirteen schools.

May

Jack Richardson on being selected and playing for the Great Britain polo team.

Alex Durgan on being offered both a Deloittes Scholarship and an Accenture gap year placement, to Josh Roberts on being offered a Deloittes Scholarship and to Baxter Macaulay on being offered an Accenture gap year placement. Deloittes is a top firm of Accountants and Management Consultants, and Accenture is a globally known firm of Management Consultants.

April

Harrow’s U15 relay team, Reiss Palmer, Chester Robinson, Oliver Huband and Oliver Morley-Fletcher, on breaking the 28-year-old record in the U15 Medley Relay race at the Oxford City Relays. The team broke records in both their races with the highlight being breaking the U15 Medley Relay record which had stood since 1980.

Clement Woo and Takehiro Fujita on finishing in the top fifty in the country in the British Mathematics Olympiad competition, and Tony Sun and James Lo on making the top 100 in the country in the same competition.

Alistair Bone on playing for the England U16 rugby squad against France, Wales and the USA early this year.

David Stodel on playing for Middlesex and trialling for the London & South East squad.

Tom Bassett and Alex Loftus on being chosen to train with the Saracens Academy Elite Performance Development Group in the Christmas holidays.

Nine players from the Yearlings A team (Shell yeargroup) on being picked for the Middlesex U14 team. They are Benjie Haston, Spencer Myers, Jake Hyman, Emeka Ilogu, Hugo Armstrong, Olivier Huband, Alex Peers and Chester Robinson.

March

Hugh Bayley on coming fifth in the Under 15 competition at the Middlesex Cross-Country Championship and on being selected for the Middlesex team going to the English Schools Championships.

Tim Hillgarth on coming 36th in the world in the International U17 Fencing Championships.

Chad Lambert on winning the U17 Middlesex Cross-Country Championship.

Harrow's 1st XI hockey team on winning the Middlesex U18 hockey championship.

February

Alistair Bone on being selected for the England U16 rugby squad.

January

Will Matthews on winning a Bronze medal in the Slalom event at the International School Boys Races held in Meringen, Switzerland. The boys who got Gold and Silver ski for England.




Achievements in 2007

December

Sam Northeast on winning the Foster Cup.

Sam Northeast on being selected to play for England in the u19 cricket World Cup in Malaysia.

November

Harrow skiers Will Matthews, Ed Robinson, Peter Ashton and James Wilce on competing in the British Finals held at Rossendale, as part of a 32-strong England Schools team.

Overall, the English Schools team won with Harrow’s highest placing being Will Matthews who came 61st and Peter Ashton who was 45th out of 400.

Peter Ashton and James Wilce have been selected for the England Junior Squad and Matthews and Robinson are being considered for the Great Britain development squad.

September

Henry Brewster on winning the Gold Medal in the Youths A race in the Italian round of the Biathle World Tour.

August

Kyle Barrett on being invited to swim for the East England team at the UK Games in August in Coventry. The UK Games is a government initiative aimed at attracting and identifying the best sporting talent across the United Kingdom with the 2012 Olympic Games specifically in mind. Kyle won a bronze medal in both the 100m and 200m Backstroke.

Thomas Wheater whose U15 Essex County Cricket team won the 2007 County Cup - on the final day, Thomas took three wickets in his opening spell.

March

The members of the Under 15 cello quartet, Rafi Colman, Joon Kwon, Felix Lashmar and Robert Stone on being amongst the winning finalists of the 2007 National Chamber Music Competition, and also the members of the Under 19 String quartet, Stephen Hung, Raymond Cheng, Arthur Yeung and Geoffrey Hung.

Ross Swanson on representing England in the U18 rugby team which played Wales in their opening warm-up match before this season's AER European Championships in France at Bristol University's Coombe Dingle ground.

February

Callum Stidston-Nott on representing London and the South East Region at U16 Rugby. Callum is also now a member of the Wasps Academy.

January

Edward Robinson on winning a Gold Medal in the Giant Slalom at January's International Schoolboys Ski Competition in France.

Tim Hillgarth on gaining the bronze medal in the British U16 Fencing Championships at Stoke, making him the third best fencer in the country in his age group.


Achievements in 2006

December

Sam Northeast on being selected to play for the England U19 cricket team on their tour to Malaysia. Sam was also nominated for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year Award 2006 in the autumn.

November

Kouji Urata on being selected to participate in the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence programme, run by British Swimming. Swimmers are selected if they are ranked within the top eight 16 year olds in the UK in an Olympic event. Kouji will be concentrating on the 100m and 200m butterfly events.

October

Peter Ashton has been selected for the British Junior Ski Team.

August

Max Szymanski on achieving eight A grades at A-level in Maths, Further Maths, Statistics, Classical Greek, Spanish, German, Physics and Chemistry.

Dominic Ho on achieving seven A grades at A-level.

Ryan Wong on achieving six A grades at A-level.

Charles Macrae on being one of the top ten who achieved the highest overall marks in the country in Astronomy GCSE, out of 1,076 entries, and scoring a top mark in English GCSE.

Oscar Lamont on achieving a top mark in GCSE Italian.

Leo Yagasaki on achieving one of the top ten marks in Japanese.

Nicky Lai on getting one of the top 10 marks in Advanced Extension Maths whilst still in the Lower Sixth (the examination is normally taken in the Upper Sixth).

The South America Rugby Tour squad on returning unbeaten after seven matches against teams in Chile, Argentina and Uruguay.

Sebastian Webb, Ben Edmonds and Mark Cartwright on getting Distinction at Grade 8 in Alto Sax, Piano and Singing respectively.

June

Tom Riley on winning the British Society of Immunology Sixth Form Competition. This was a national competition to mark the European Federation of Immunology - Day of Immunology on 29 April 2006.

May

Sam Northeast on his unbeaten 62 for Sir Paul Getty's XI against Sri Lanka. Sam was the top scorer for his victorious team.

April

Patrick Colville on being awarded a prestigious Price Waterhouse Coopers Internship.

Russell Bruns on receiving a gold medal at the MCASA Awards for being Middlesex County Champion in 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke in the age group of males 17 and over.

Jack Richardson on being selected for the junior England polo squad.

Nicky Lai, Solomon Lau and Ewan Phillips on achieving Distinction at Grade 8 in bassoon, piano and singing respectively, and Joon Kwon on achieving Distinction at Grade 6 in cello.

March

Sean Li on successfully completing his second violin diploma and achieving a Distinction in the LTCL examinations.

Alex Rust on becoming the British Junior 100m Freestyle Champion in swimming.

February

William Freeman on coming First in the 13-16 age group in the Peter Kittel Memorial Competition. It is the only film competition with an under 16 age category in England at the moment and is sponsored by the Institute of Amateur Cinematographers in conjunction with the Harrow Cine and Video Society. William's film then went through to the Final, in which it received a Highly Commended from the judges.

January

Alex Rust on being selected to represent England at the WISE International Swimming Championships on 18th March at Glenrothes in Scotland. He will compete in the 100m Freestyle and both the Freestyle and Medley Relays.

The Harrow School Ski Team: Dow Travers (Manager), Dillon Travers (Silver Medal winner), Will Matthews (Gold Medal winner) and Ed Robinson on their performances in the British School Boys' Skiing Competition.


Achievements in 2005

December

Ed Martins on playing his first match for the Independent Schools FA (ISFA) Under 19 Representative side when they played Shropshire Schools FA. Ed came on midway through the first half when ISFA were losing 0-1 and he scored with his first touch of the match! ISFA eventually won 2-1 and Ed scored the second goal as well.

The following boys on qualifying for the British Mathematics Olympiad Round 1 and winning Gold Awards in the Senior Mathematical Challenge 2005: Derwin Chun & Taejae Ha, Buwei Hu, Nicky Lai, Tom Lee, Ruize Zhao, Anthony Cheng, and Michael Wong. Harrovians won a further five Gold Awards, nine Silver Awards and four Bronze Awards in the Challenge.

The School's 1st XI cricket team on winning the Daily Telegraph "Sports Team of the Year" Award.

Will Fortune on saving 2 championship points to come back and win the Foster Cup, and on becoming the first person to hold both the Foster Cup and the UK U18 Real Tennis Champion titles at the same time.

Sam Northeast on winning the Colts competition at the Queen's Club Rackets Championships.

November

Alex Rust and Kouji Orata on coming third and seventh respectively in their events at the National Swimming Championships.

Victor Chow on being awarded a Nuffield Foundation Bursary to work at the National Institute for Medical Research in Mill Hill AND on being awarded a Platinum Award (above Gold) by the Excellence in Science and Technology Institute run by Imperial College for his research into The Parathyroid Gland and Gene Structure. October Ed Martins on his selection for the Independent Schools U19 soccer team, the first Harrovian to be selected (many of the U19 are semi-professional).

Sam Northeast on being made captain of the England U16 cricket team.

The School swimming team on winning the trophy for Best Team in South-Central England.

620 boys on running ten miles or twenty miles in this year's Long Ducker.

Toshi Takano and Tatwin Owen-Edmunds on discovering a new species of snake in Thailand. Several of the specimens collected have been catalogued by the Natural History Museum alongside the specimens collected by Darwin.

The School's rugby teams on winning 18 out of 21 rugby matches versus Eton in this term's fixture.

Jonathan Martin on achieving a Bronze Medal in the British Indoor Rowing Championships at U16 level.

September

Sam Northeast on winning the Player of the Tournament Award at the Bunbury Cricket Festival.

Iwan Jenkins: selected to play for Wales U16 cricket team

Richard Le Poer: presented a cup by The Queen for the Most Valuable Polo Player at school or university.

Edward Gall: selected for the British Polocrosse team

Will Fortune: won England U 18 Real Tennis Tournament at the Queen's Club

Gilbert Harrap: awarded an Army Gap Scholarship and also cycled from Land's End to John O'Groats and raised over £1000 for the Children's Leukemia Charity.

April

William Martin on coming 4th out of 56 in the Under 16 age group in the National Indoor Rowing Championships and to his brother Jonathan Martin who came 4th out of 104 in the Under 15 age group in the National Indoor Rowing Championships.

Edward Philips, currently in the Shell year (aged 13), on being awarded a Distinction in his Grade 8 trumpet examination.

Metin Ibrahim, Charles Delaney and Edward Symington on achieving Distinction at Grade 8 in their instrumental music exams.

Samuel Chiu on being awarded a Music Scholarship to Imperial College London.

March

Tom Hadow and Peter Wheen on winning Gold medals, Jonathan Martin and Alex Corder taking Silvers, and Will Martin and James Lawton achieving Bronze medals at the Schools Judo Tournament.

The Piano Trio of Samuel Chiu, Frank Choi and Timothy Lim added to two previous appearances in the Finalists Concert by being selected to appear in the 2005 final concert of the National Chamber Music Competition. The piano quartet and the cello quartet got as far as the semi-finals.

Adam Webb and William Denehy on winning the Junior Colts title at the Schools' Eton Fives Championships, beating Shrewsbury in the final 3-1.

Sam Northeast and Will Jones on staging a brilliant fightback from 2-0 down to overcome the St Paul's pairing of Jamie Gibbor and Tom Hoolahan, the favourites, to win the National Schools Championships Junior Colts rackets event 13-15, 10-15, 15-12, 16-13, 18-15.

February

Tim Lim and Thanatip Viturawong on coming in the top 20 in the UK in Round 1 of the National Chemistry Olympiad competition.

January

Alexander Wolf, Dow and Dillon Travers on competing in the British School Boys' Skiing Competition and achieving eighth place out of thirty-one for the Harrow Ski Team.

December

Joe Bone (Bradbys) on winning the Foster Cup, the National Schools Championship senior rackets event, with an explosive straight-games win over Alex Hackett, of Radley. Joe charged to victory 15-8, 15-8, 15-4.

November

Harrow's Head Master, Barnaby Lenon, on winning the Award for Best Headmaster at the Tatler Schools Awards.

Nick Nacmanson, Ed Turner and Fred Lower on being awarded Army Scholarships.

October

Edward Gall on being selected to represent Great Britain in the under-16 Polocrosse squad.

September

Gilbert Harrap, Tim Lim, James Robson, Rupert Samual, Hanbit Cho, Rohan Keswani, George Refsum and Alexander Wolf on achieving the highest level of award in the national Engineering Education Scheme. The school forged a partnership with local companies, undertook engineering research on their behalf and published the findings. Harrow achieved the highest score in the south east of England for this work.

Edward Gall has been short-listed to represent Great Britain as a potential member of the UK under-16 Polocrosse squad.

Richard Le Poer on being selected to play polo for England.

Taejae Ha and Thanatip Viturawong on being selected to take part in an extension Maths scheme run by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust as a result of their outstanding performance in the British Mathematical Olympiad.

William Blad became the 22nd Harrovian to achieve entry to Oxford to read Chemistry in the past 10 years.
